The Era of the Cyber Flood

A joint study by two Dutch organisations, Deltares and Floodtags,  has developed a new mapping tool that uses  data from tweets to generate 'real-time' flood maps.  It is hoped that these new maps will give crisis managers a greater insight into the situation during a flood event and enable them to make much more effective decisions.

Our blog on Cyberfloods asks the big questions about utislising data from social networks and the extent to which it can help emergency responders during flood events.  We also ask if sourcing data from the perople involved in an event can help engage flood-affected communities in preparation, prevention and adaptation strategies.
